SOGE-A: System for Observations of Halogenated Greenhouse Gases in Europe and Asia (update: 1/2009)

China is an Article-5 country under the Montreal Protocol and has therefore a delayed phase-out schedule for ozone-depleting substances (ODS) such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), hydrofluorochlorocarbons (HCFCs), methyl chloroform (CH3CCl3), and carbon tetrachloride (CCl4). In order to independently estimate Chinese ODS emissions, we have been making ODS in-situ measurements since October 2006, at the regional GAW station Shangdianzi, approximately 100 km north of Beijing. The project started as an EU-FP6 project and is now ongoing through institute fundings provided by Empa and CAWAS/CAMS, our Chinese collaborators.
