Aerosol and
Cloud Chemistry -- Projects

POLARCAT-France
Kangerlussuaq, June/July 2008
POLARCAT-France is a part of the international project
POLARCAT, in the framework of
the International Polar Year.
During the POLARCAT-France summer campaign, aircraft based measurements
are performed out of
Kangerlussuaq, Greenland
(67°00′38″ N, 50°42′33″ W), with the objective
to investigate the pollutant transport pathways to the Arctic, with
respect to European outflow, Canadian and Siberian boreal forest fires.
The French ATR aircraft is equipped with various
in-situ aerosol instrumentation, an ozone lidar, an aerosol lidar as
well as CO and O3 trace gas measurements.
In parallel, the German Falcon of DLR will perform the project
POLARCAT-GRACE
at Kangerlussuaq. If possible, flights will be coordinated. Furthermore
an intercomparison flight with the NASA DC-8 (ARCTAS)
is planned.
