Eurocycle 2001
20 - 22 July, Plymouth, England

Events

There should be plenty going on for all standards of rider, including...

Hockey

Neither Eurocycle nor the BUC would be complete without a good dose of hockey. Teams of any standard are welcome to enter the competition. Individuals who do not have a regular team will be able to join "scratch" teams at the event. If there are a large number of teams entered, there will be a split into 2 divisions based on past form (and any insider knowledge we have!).

Jonathan Marshall, rocket@jbmarshl.demon.co.uk will be organising the tournament. Please contact him to register a team or to clarify any particular hockey questions you may have.

Hockey registration closes on Friday evening at 2000 and there will be a Team Captain's meeting at 2030. Please make sure you register for this on time or in advance!

As we are in the UK, a street-hockey ball will be used for the competition. In particular, we use the Mylec pink ball (a softish ball designed for cold conditions). Do not get this confused with the rather harder Mylec magenta ball (designed for use in the summer).

Unicycle Hockey rules are available here.

Workshops

We will be hosting a range of workshops for varying abilities. Barry Gates Barry@libeng.demon.co.uk will be co-ordinating this. Please let him know if you wish to run a workshop, or if there is something specific you would like to see covered.

Currently planned workshops include Ultimate Wheel, Pairs tricks, Wheel-building with DM, Mounts with Julien Monney and plenty of others.

Basketball

We will run a basketball competition as there has been demand from both French and Belgium teams. Contact paul@vimes.u-net.com if you are interested in taking part in this. Alternatively, you can sign up on either Friday evening or early on Saturday morning.

Unicycle basketball does differ a little from the normal game. These differences are available from here .

Races

A race-track (off-site) has been organised and we are aiming to run 100m races (both IUF and unlimited categories) and, time permitting, 400m. Other (more informal) races and jumps may be organised on-site.

The racing is going to be held at a running track in Plymouth centre on Sunday morning. It'll be an early start with the bus leaving for the race-track at 0830.

Games

Silly games have been a feature of recent Eurocycles (goat milking anyone?) and BUCs (blindfold racing over sleeping policemen). This tradition will not be forgotten. Be prepared to get involved in games of gladiators, bulldog, stuck-in-the-mud and anything else our twisted minds devise!
