High Pressure Group

Research direction of the Division:

The high pressure group is concerned with the determination of metal and mineral equilibria and thermodynamical properties under conditions of the deep Earth mantle and core (up to 2 million atmospheres pressure and 5000^o Centigrade).

Our facilities include: Diamond anvil cells; high power infrared heating lasers (CO₂ laser, YAG and YFL lasers); Raman spectrometer (Ar laser); x-ray diffractometer (spinning anode generator); 1000t high pressure press.
